Visiting the Hospital

The Hospital believes that the patient comes first all the time, and to this end, various policies are in place to ensure quality and optimal care delivery.
As a Patient:
As a specialist facility, patients can only access our services after they have been given a referral from a primary or secondary healthcare centre. For non-trauma, trauma and dental cases, however, patients can walk-in for care.

For patients who may need admission or further management, the Hospital has a 2,000-bed structure. There are main lie-in wards with side wards and VIP facilities, depending on the patient’s preference. However, patients who prefer our Side or VIP wards must book ahead of time.

Payment for Treatment
For payment of our services, the Hospital accepts both health insurance and cash. Apart from Ghana’s national health insurance, Korle Bu has also partnered with other private and international health insurance companies in care delivery. Private insurance companies whose clients visit the Hospital are advised to register their companies with our Health Insurance Unit to enable their clients use their Scheme in our facility.

As a Visitor
In order to provide quality care delivery to our patients, the Hospital has fixed times for visitors who wish to visit a relative/friend on admission. The fixed time ensures that patients can have enough rest and caregivers can have the privacy and space to properly attend to patients without interference.
The visiting hours in Korle Bu are mainly:
Morning: 6:30am – 7:00am (2 patients allowed at a time)
Evening: 4:30pm – 6:00pm (2 patients allowed at a time)
Visitors who wish to have a tour of our facility need to contact the Public Relations Unit for further assistance via pr@kbth.gov.gh.

As a Student
Korle Bu gained teaching Hospital status in 1962, when the School of Medicine and Dentistry, formerly University of Ghana Medical School was established to train doctors. Currently, there are centres to train nurses, midwives, medical and allied health students. Persons interested in attending any of these schools can contact the respective areas on our homepage.
Students who wish to undertake internship/clinicals/training at our facility can contact us through the following emails:
• Medical Directorate – dma.secretariat@kbth.gov.gh
• Nursing Directorate – nursing.directorate@kbth.gov.gh/g.anyomi@kbth.gov.gh

Enquiries and Complaints Management
Patient and Customer Service Centres have been opened at four major departments of the Hospital to receive and manage patient and client enquiries/complaints/ compliments.
For the other clinical department of the Hospital which does not have this facility, clients can still reach us on the contacts on our homepage.
In Korle Bu, we believe that the Patient comes First all the time!!!
