Physiotherapy

Welcome to the Department of Physiotherapy

Our Physiotherapy Department is dedicated to delivering top-quality preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care to both inpatients and outpatients. We work collaboratively with other healthcare teams to enhance patient recovery, promote mobility, and improve overall well-being. Committed to excellence in education, research, and professional development, we train future therapists and provide valuable health information to the public. Our goal is to be the leading hub for physiotherapy services in Ghana, ensuring effective and efficient care for all.

Core Functions and Services

We provide comprehensive physiotherapy care for both inpatients and outpatients, including intensive care physiotherapy for patients in intensive care or critically ill, focusing on recovery, mobility, and pain management. Here are the various services we provide:

    • Musculoskeletal treatment: Involves therapeutic intervention to musculoskeletal conditions such as low back pain, spondylosis, joint extremities pain, etc. Therapeutic intervention might include, but is not limited to, ice therapy, electrotherapy, manual therapy, etc.
    • Stroke rehabilitation: A progressive, dynamic, goal-oriented process aimed at enabling a person with stroke to reach their optimal physical, cognitive, emotional, communicative, and social functional level.
    • Post Trauma Rehabilitation: Offers comprehensive and integrated therapeutic intervention to those with acute workplace injuries and motor vehicle accidents. Examples include head injury and fracture management.
    •
    • Sports Physiotherapy: Deals with injuries and issues related to sportspeople. Sports injuries differ from everyday injuries. Athletes normally require a high level of performance and demand placed upon their bodies, which stresses their muscles, joints, and bones to the limit.
    • Post-Surgical Rehabilitation: Necessary for a variety of surgical procedures including orthopedic, cardiac, thoracic, neurological, and abdominal surgery. All types of surgery present with a number of postoperative consequences which can be helped with physiotherapy. Example: post-laminectomy physiotherapy management.
    • Medical Rehabilitation: Available for individuals with physical, cognitive, sensory, and/or emotional disabilities, such as those related to spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, or other neurological or autoimmune conditions.
    • Paediatric Physiotherapy: Designed to improve the abilities of children with congenital conditions and young people following major injury, illness, or medical procedures which affect their function. Paediatric rehabilitation programs aim to maximize the ability of the child to participate in activities at home, school, and the community.
  • Burns and Plastic Surgery Rehabilitation: Offers a comprehensive service to inpatients and outpatients following major and minor burns, and plastic surgery.
