The Department of Dental and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery offers specialized oral health services, addressing a broad spectrum of oral and maxillofacial needs for patients locally, nationally, and internationally. Clinical Units

Our department operates several specialized clinical units, each designed to address specific dental needs:

  • Outpatient Department (OPD): Open Monday to Friday, serving as the first point of contact for patients.
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Maxillofacial Unit: Focusing on the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of diseases and disorders related to the face and jaws.
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (Oral Diagnosis): Dedicated to the clinical and histological diagnosis of oral and maxillofacial pathologies.
  • Restorative Dentistry: Focusing on diagnosing, treating, and managing diseases of the teeth and their supporting structures.
  • Paedodontics: Providing specialized care for the oral health needs of children from infancy through adolescence (18 years and below).
  • Periodontics Clinic: Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • General Dentistry Clinics: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (also includes consultations, teaching, and research).

Special Services

We offer a wide range of subspecialties, each dedicated to specific areas of oral health:

  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery / Maxillofacial Unit: Addressing facial trauma, congenital and acquired defects, facial infections, jaw cancers, and extractions.
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (Oral Diagnosis): Providing initial examinations for all patients before referral to other subspecialties.
  • Restorative Dentistry: Including Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Maxillofacial Prostheses, Cosmetic Dentistry, and Dental Implants.
  • Paedodontics: Providing prophylaxis, fissure sealants, fluoride therapy, interceptive orthodontic procedures, fillings, pulp therapies, and stainless steel crowns.

Training and Education

The Department plays an active role in the education of dental professionals, offering training for undergraduate and postgraduate dental students, supporting family medicine residents, and collaborating on research projects with the University of Ghana Dental School. We also participate in outreach and advocacy programs.
