The Namibian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Selma Ashipala Musavyi has donated Dräger Savina 300 Ventilator worth US22,000 dollars to the Peadiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
The presentation of the equipment was to mark the 33rd independence celebration of Namibia.
In a brief ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah in an address noted that the gesture would cement the long-standing relationship between Ghana and Namibia.
Dr. Ampomah expressed his gratitude and appreciated the fact that countries in the African continent are supporting each other.
Her Excellency Selma Ashipala Musavyi in her address said she visited the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic and it reminded her of their hospital in Namibia, adding that Ghana had done a lot in the area of training their health professionals.
“This donation is not a payback for Ghana’s generosity but a recognition of the critical importance of public health facilities, as embodied in the sustainable development goals”, she added.
Madam Henrietta Baah, Deputy Director of Africa Bilateral Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also thanked the Commission for their support, “this will continue to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries”.
The Head of Child Health Department, Professor Christabel Laryea expressed her gratitude on behalf PICU.
“This is like a dream come true and it has come”, assuring the donors that the equipment would be put to good use.
The head of PICU, Dr. Owusu Sekyere was also grateful to Her Excellency and her team for the life-saving equipment.
