In view of the current COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with the current national directives concerning “social distancing”, the Renal Dialysis Unit has made a number of changes at its OUTPATIENT (OPD) Clinic.
The unit has three outpatient clinics that are held once a week and on specific days as follows:
- General Nephrology Clinic: Monday mornings
- Dialysis Clinic: Midday on Wednesdays
- Glomerulonephritis and Kidney Transplant clinic: Friday mornings
The modifications, with regards to patient inflows for each clinic and the contingencies instituted, are as follows:
1. General Nephrology Clinic: Monday mornings
a. This Clinic is heavily populated and requires decongestion to minimise risk to patients and care givers.
b. All patients who attend this Clinic are encouraged to attend reviews, with their folder, at a primary care facility close to their place of residence.
C. Primary Care practitioners reviewing these patients may call the RENAL HOTLINE (0503201104), between 8am-2pm each day, to receive expert advice that will enable them manage their patients optimally.
d. A maximum of 5 new referrals and 20 follow-up patients per clinic session will still be scheduled and admitted to the clinic, using the current appointment procedure.
e. Criteria for new referrals to this clinic:
– Chronic Kidney Disease with Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate <10ml/min/1.73m2 (This is for the advice of only healthcare professionals)
– Nephrotic Syndrome or Acute Glomerulonephritis
f. Primary care practitioners who require assistance with patients outside these criteria may still call the RENAL HOTLINE.
2. Dialysis Clinic: Midday on Wednesdays
This clinic is not heavily populated therefore the status quo shall be maintained.
3. Glomerulonephritis and Kidney Transplant clinic: Friday mornings
a. Kidney Transplant patients shall be given priority at this Clinic.
b. Patients who are due for a review at this Clinic should call the CLINIC COORDINATOR (0503201103) for further instructions.
c. Patients will be scheduled for either a clinic appointment or a telephone consultation (whatsapp video call where applicable) with a specialist, depending on their circumstances.
d. A maximum of 15 patients shall be scheduled for clinic appointments each week.
e. This Clinic is not subject to new referrals from Primary care practitioners.
The Renal Dialysis Unit, KBTH remains committed to providing the highest standard of care for all patients.
