Director of Nursing Services

Mrs. Rita Esi Aryee has been appointed as the Director of Nursing. Her appointment took effect from January, 2018.

Mrs. Rita Aryee acted as the Director of Nursing for a while after the former Director, Mrs. Victoria Quaye’s tenure came to an end.

She comes to the position with over three decades experience in nursing and midwifery, having been appointed to Korle Bu in 1988 as a Staff Nurse and attached to the Central OPD. She has risen through the ranks and has worked at various departments such as the Polyclinic, Accidents Centre, Maternity etc.

In 2012, she was appointed to the Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) position in charge of the Training and Research Unit, formally In-Service Training Unit with additional responsibilities in research.

In 2016, she was appointed as the Chief Nursing Officer of the Unit. During her tenure, the Unit undertook notable operational researches and key among them is “Patient Satisfaction with Nursing and Midwifery Care in the Hospital”. The outcome of this research premised the beefing up of nurses during night shift and also encouraged nurses to smile in the course of their work.

The Training and Research Unit, which was dilapidated also received a major facelift during her short tenure in office.

As she occupies the Nursing Directorship, Mrs. Aryee intends to rebrand nursing and midwifery care in the Hospital to go beyond clients’ expectation and also to conduct more operational researches and contribute to the formulation of policies and guidelines that promote excellent care.

She also plans to intensify team nursing and patient-centered care. Already, her Directorate has started educating patient relatives to stop rendering the basic nursing care for nurses and midwives to carry out.

When she is stressed, Mrs Aryee likes to be in an open space, breathing fresh air and generally enjoying nature. Listening to music also helps her relax.
