The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has presented GHc60,000 to enhance childhood cancer treatment at the Hospital’s Paediatric Oncology Unit.
Presenting the cheque, the Chief Executive Officer of GNGC, Dr. Ben Asare said he was aware of how expensive treatment of cancers are.
He said even though this was their first visit to the Unit, his Company will be collaborating with the Unit in order to provide enhanced care to children with these conditions.
He thanked staff of the Unit for their dedication and hardwork in ensuring that children with these conditions survive and live normal lives.
The Head of the Children’s Department, Prof. Ebenezer Badoe, noted that children are a heritage of God and there was the need to take good care of them.
He thanked officials of Ghana Gas for thinking about the Unit and assured them that the money will be used diligently.
The Head of the Paediatric Oncology Unit, Prof. Awo Renner was grateful to the Company for the presentation.
She noted that it was sad that the country’s health insurance covers only adult cancers, leaving out children who are more vulnerable.
She said several effort had been made for childhood cancers to be included in the national health insurance but till now, it had been unsuccessful.
