ORIENTATION WORKSHOP TO DEVELOP SOPs FOR HMIS

The Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PPME) Unit of the hospital yesterday led an orientation workshop, with funding and facilitation support from the World Health Organization (WHO), for staff.

The purpose of the training was to give participants an orientation on the development of the Hospital’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for its Health Management Information System (HMIS).

Directors, representatives of heads of Departments and a cross section of Health Information Officers/Managers, Biostatisticians, Information Technology Officers/Managers and other personnel responsible for data management in the Hospital participated in the workshop.

A total of 115 staff from the 19 Departments and Sub-BMCs including the Centers of Excellence and the 7 Directorates were given this orientation.

The Director Medical Affairs, Dr. Ali Samba, who spoke on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer and the entire Management team expressed appreciation to the WHO for the immense contribution and support.

He encouraged staff to fully participate to improve the data management structures and quality of the hospital, which he said will significantly reflect in the national data.

A Health System Specialist from the WHO Country Office in Ghana, Dr. Sofonias Gatachew Asrat, who spoke on behalf of the Country Representative said that the WHO was proud to support KBTH to develop its SOP for Health Management Information System and also develop a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Plan to help the hospital in its system strengthening efforts.

As part of next steps, the PPME Unit and consultants from the WHO will undertake a one week visit to each department and Directorate to review their draft SOPs towards a unified and harmonized SOP for the hospital.
