Korle Bu Awards 2022 Research Grants

The Hospital has awarded Ghc40,000 from its internal resources to enhance research activities.

The grant was awarded to four research teams, an increment from last year’s award.

Out of the several proposals received across the Hospital this year, the following were selected ; Barriers to healthcare utilisation among young pregnant women in Korle Bu Teaching Hospital by Dr Kwaku Asah-Opoku & Eugene Budu (Obst & Gynae); Psychological Wellbeing Of Head And Neck Cancer Survivors And Their Caregivers In Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital by Ms. Selina Owusu Boadu (Psychiatry Dept) and Rev. Benjamin Abaidoo (Eye Dept).

The other topics are “Understanding The Patterns Of Disease And The Barriers To Health System At Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Using The World Health Organization’s Seven Building Blocks Framework: Landscape Analysis by George Ekem-Ferguson (Psychiatry Dept) and Swithin Mustapha Swaray (National Cardiothoracic Centre); Anticoagulant prescribing and monitoring practices and adherence to guidelines at a teaching hospital in Ghana by Mark Amankwa Harrison and Dr Dorcas Boateng, both from the Pharmacy Department.

The grant is in fulfilment of Management’s quest to make research an integral part of decision-making and improving care delivery outcomes.

It is also as part of our core mandate as a tertiary care facility which trains various cadres of health care providers.

Present at the awards ceremony were the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah; Director of Medical Affairs, Dr. Ali Samba; Director of Pharmacy, Dr. Daniel Ankrah; Head of Research, Dr. Franklin Acheampong; the Deputy Director of Pharmacy, Dr. Mrs. Amah Nkansah; the awardees and other senior members of the Hospital.
