Put Knowledge To Action

The Hospital officially launched this year’s World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) celebration with a call to practicalise knowledge about antimicrobial resistance in order to reduce its effects.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah who made the call noted that it is only in translating the knowledge acquired that we can make an impact against effects on antimicrobial resistance .

The Chairman of the Hospital’s Drug Therapeutics Committee (DTC), Dr. Ofori Adjei in his remarks revealed that according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) about 10 million people are estimated to die due to antimicrobial resistance by year 2050.

This, he noted, makes it important to educate patients and stakeholders on correct usage of drugs in order not to abuse it.

Representatives from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) who were present launch the ‘Bring Back your Unused Medicines’ campaign. This is a project to ensure that unused and expired medications are safely disposed off in order to reduce abuse and misuse.

The Director of Pharmacy, Dr. Daniel Ankrah in his welcome address urged all stakeholders in the fight against antimicrobial resistance to collaborate and do our best to make the realisation of this year’s theme possible.

This year’s WAAW celebration is under the theme: Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance together.
